Volunteering Opportunities

- Are you passionate about history or industry?

- Are you an ex-Miner or part of a mining family?

- Are you interested in being involved in something new, learning new skills and supporting your community?

Volunteers are the heart of South Wales Miners’ Museum. We offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities for people of all ages.

Whether you're interested in becoming involved as a museum assistant, tour guide, Heritage Walk leader or assisting with the maintenance of our steam engine and other facilities, SWMM has a role for you, where you can assist us in continuing to grow our facility, and to keep the proud heritage of the Afan and Llynfi valleys alive.

A recipient of the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, volunteering with South Wales Miners' Museum can offer opportunities to:

  • gain confidence and learn new skills

  • help conserve museum objects

  • develop skills toward a new career

  • assist in organising events in and around the museum and local community

  • learn to guide tours of the museum, or lead our outdoor heritage walks

  • gain administrative experience and support the day to day running of our offices

  • work in the community as part of our outreach activities

  • be part of our network of colleagues and friends

All levels of experience are catered for, and both weekday and weekend volunteering can be accommodated

Roles are catered to your level of availability and area of interest

If you're seeking to gain experience in the heritage sector, or wish to play your part in preserving our heritage while being part of a friendly and welcoming group of colleagues, please use our contact us form.
